User Experience Theorist. Writer. Epicure.

Skills

User Experience Strategy: As Principal, User Experience, I am responsible for the interactive customer experience at QVC. I design or oversee the design of all user interfaces, navigation and carefully implement new functionality to enhance the multi-channel experience. This includes plotting out all major interactive projects over a 3 year span.

User Interface Design: I have 10+ years of UX experience, including navigation and layout design, business analysis, functional requirement specification and front-end coding. I have also designed interfaces for 6 different interactive TV platforms, including QVC Active — the first US real-time two-way Interactive Television shopping service, and several interactive tools for mobile phones.

Usability Testing: I created QVC’s usability testing program and have directed it for the past 8 years. In conjunction with the Market Research team, we set goals, create tasks, conduct usability tests and analyze results.

Writing: In the past, I have written press releases for a small software-development company and have been a contributing writer for Digital Web Magazine. Lastly, I write extensively for my personal websites, MikeMadaio.com and Main Line Dine.

Internet Knowledge: I have prepared extensive competitive reports on various topics related to ecommerce. In addition, I am extremely well-versed and competent doing anything and everything on the internet.

General PC Knowledge: I am comfortable using any Windows or Mac based software — even programs I have never used (I learn very quickly!). I regularly crack open my own computer to install new pieces and to fiddle with existing ones, and am familiar with basic networking and other useful PC skills.
