Crazy Audio on Gap.com

A few weeks ago I posted about automatic audio on web pages… in general I am not a fan, but in some cases I can understand why it is done. I, however, have no idea what is going through the minds of the folks over at Gap; they have inexplicably added a random musical track to the background of their homepage.

I first heard it after I had loaded up a few tabs in firefox, and I had NO IDEA where it was coming from! I had this blog, my email and gap.com in the browser, none of which seemed capable of producing music. It was only after a second visit with no additional tabs that I realized Gap was the culprit.

What a strange and annoying decision!

Update: The homepage has been redesigned and the music is gone. Perhaps they came to their senses.

I too think that auto audio and video is a great nuisance but with the upgrade of IE not allowing embedded code to automatically launch that “should” solve the problem for most basic users in the user experience department. I use Firefox as you do and when I went to Gap’s site music never started for me. Isn’t there a setting in Firefox that prevents this like IE? That may be a dumb question but it has been awhile since I have looked at the advanced settings. You will probably knock me in the head for writing this but perhaps you need to check your advanced settings for the embedded code feature….

Was it a good tune at least??

Ok, I might mess with advanced settings. But most people probably wouldn’t even know those existed. They just get stuck with annoying audio?
